We write about brakes, engine diagnostics, transmissions, tires and the rest of what comes through our eight bays. The cars we write about are the cars our neighbors drive, and a wrong answer about brakes can cost feet of stopping distance. This page explains how our articles get made, so you can decide how much to trust them.
Who checks our articles
Fred and Nancy Kneble co-own the shop, and both of them read our technical articles before they go up. Fred earned ASE Master Technician status, and the shop has been fixing foreign and domestic cars in Mays Landing since 1981. When a question needs another set of eyes, they ask the technicians in our bays. If an article describes a repair, a warning sign or a maintenance interval, someone who does that work every day has read it first.
Sources we trust
For anything that affects safety (brakes, steering, fuel systems, airbags and restraints), we only cite:
- The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (nhtsa.gov)
- Manufacturer service bulletins and owner’s manuals
- The Environmental Protection Agency (epa.gov)
- The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (iihs.org)
- The New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (nj.gov/mvc) for inspection rules
For routine maintenance we also use established publications like Consumer Reports and Car and Driver. We don’t cite affiliate pages, or articles that summarize a manufacturer without linking to it. If we can’t back up a number, we leave the number out.
Keeping articles current
Cars change, recalls come out and state rules get rewritten. When a manufacturer bulletin, an NHTSA recall or a New Jersey rule change affects something we’ve written, we update the article.
If we got something wrong
Tell us. Email info@kneblesauto.com or call (609) 625-3286 with the article and what’s wrong, and we’ll fix it.
What we don’t publish
- Repair prices in articles. The cost depends on your car, the parts and what the inspection finds, so a number in an article would be wrong more often than right. Call us for a real quote.
- Content paid for by parts companies or other shops.
- Opinions on cars or parts we haven’t worked on ourselves.
