Do you want to change your tires or your rims on your vehicle for a different look? Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center. I’ve had several customers come to us wanting to change their rim size on their vehicle for bigger rims. Now unfortunately, you may not realize, but there’s some factors to consider when making that purchase of different size rims or a different size tires for your vehicle.
First, understand that rims, which are the outer edge of the wheel, connect to the vehicle through spokes, so be aware of your bolt pattern for your vehicle. These bolts attach your tires to the wheels. So, make sure the new rim is going to match up with your bolt pattern on your vehicle. Second, are you considering just changing the look of the rims with your current tire size? This means knowing the width and diameter of your tire.
Now the diameter is referring to the measuring of the sidewall to sidewall. That’s that opening in the tire. Also, don’t forget to know the rim size. Now the rim size refers to the width of the tire. Increasing your rim size usually shortens that sidewall size, which helps give a better grip to the road, increasing the handling ability and steering response. Why do rims improve the stability of driving those corners?
Third, did the fitment change due to the rim and tire size change? Now you’re probably saying what’s fitment? Fitment is the distance from the dead center of the wheel to the mounting surface. So, a higher offset means the wheel will sit further from the wheel well. So, you may need to purchase some spacers.
Fourth. When changing the rim and the tire size, be aware this can change the speed of the vehicle, which your computer monitors because of the ratio, the differential. This will affect the running condition of your vehicle. So, there’s many things to consider before just going out and changing your rims or your tire size. Do your homework before making your next purchase of new rims or new tires.
Like us on Facebook, and share the pictures of your vehicle showing off those new rims or tires. Thank you for watching.
