Are you one of those people who are driving around with your fuel door open?
It’s not because you forgot to close it. It just won’t stay closed no matter what you do, short of taping that door shut.
Or you are afraid once you shut it, you can’t get it open when it’s time for fueling up.
Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center.
Before I gas you up with a tidbit on your gas tank door or fuel door.

Now, back to dealing with that annoying gas tank door that I dealt with when I was driving my daughter’s vehicle.
Yes!
Do you believe she leaves her fuel door open because it doesn’t close?
She too is afraid it won’t open when needed.
The fuel door operates with a cable, latch, and hinge. The cable is situated along the side panel of the vehicle, and it helps release the fuel door.
- When the cable starts to fail, it will no longer open the door as intended.
- When the latch breaks, the fuel door won’t be able to stay closed.
- Finally, the hinge may break leaving you holding the fuel door in your hand, no longer even attached to the vehicle.
Any of these three problems are a nuisance.
I think the worst one is having the fuel door in your hand because you may find when purchasing a new fuel door, it may require to be painted to match the color of the vehicle as they often come primed.
Luckily for my daughter, and hopefully for you, a latching cable was all that was needed to be good as new.
