What do you do when an animal leaps or runs in front of your moving vehicle? Are you a quick thinker? Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center. How quickly do you respond and is your response appropriate? Do you swerve out of the way or not? Experts say do not swerve. You should remain in your lane while attempting to slow down. Never speed up. If possible while slowing down, move towards the right side or the edge of the road.
While instinct tells us to avoid danger and we want to swerve, an animal’s instinct is to move faster along the path it has chosen such as the road. Be aware of your surroundings. Notice any animal off to the distance. Animals usually are more active at dusk and dawn, so you use your high beams when driving at night and of course, no other vehicles are around.
And if you do end up in a collision with a deer, duck into your vehicle while large animals can come through the windshield or even crush the vehicle’s roof. Stay safe while driving. And thank you for watching. Share with others and like us on Facebook. And next time you’re in, mention Kneble with a K and get 10% off of your service. Thank you.
