Nancy explains how the future is here with cruise control and why we need to keep our cars clean!
Transcript:
Who would have thought that vehicles could see other vehicles and we react automatically to avoid a possible collision? Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center and that reminds me of my favorite cartoon, the Jetsons. I remember when George Jetson would press a button in his car and it would fold up into a compact briefcase. What a great idea I used to think. So futuristic. All right, no more reminiscing.
Today’s vehicles may not have that capability, but they certainly have come a long way since when I was young. With all the new cutting edge safety technology, manufacturers have installed sensors in the grill, bumpers, rear quarter panels and mirrors. So keeping these sensors clean of dirt, ice and snow will allow them to operate properly. Such as the adaptive cruise control. It uses sensors and radar, not only to operate our cruise control, but can also adjust the throttle and brakes when needed. Another feature is the blind spot detection. This alerts the driver if an object or a vehicle is in a blind spot during our driving and parking. Lane departure warning is also another safety feature. That determines approaching vehicle’s speed and distance, and warns you of a potential danger if you’re about to change a lane. Adaptive headlight or night vision assist, this uses thermal imaging cameras or infrared headlamps that the driver can see farther down the road. Adaptive headlights follows the direction of the vehicle, even bending the light around the corners. They may even be set speed sensitive when changing, beam length and height to compensate for the ambient light.
So remember, with these features they are so beneficial for us being safe while driving. But remember they use the cameras, the radar and sensors, and they need to be free of the dirt, debris, and snow and ice that can build up on them. Remember also, a good idea is once all this weather breaks, have your car washed.
If you like the video, give it a thumbs up and share the information with others so they realize there are sensors around their vehicle that need to remain clean of debris. Thank you for watching.
