With temperatures being in the ’80s and ’90s, it goes without saying: DO NOT LEAVE YOUR PETS UNATTENDED IN THE CAR!

Have you left your pet in a vehicle to do what you think is a quick errand? Why?
Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center. Every year hundreds of pets die from being left in parked cars. Did you know that in just 10 minutes, the inside temperature of that parked car can rise almost 20 degrees? And in 30 minutes the inside of that parked car can rise over 30 degrees? So for example, if it’s 90 degrees outside, the inside of that car temperature could be upwards of 124 degrees in 30 minutes. But regardless of the ambient temperature, parked cars that can raise in temperature an average of 40 degrees. So if it’s 70 degrees outside, inside of that car can be 104. Parked vehicles act as a greenhouse. The sunlight passes through the glass and heats up the mass of air that is trapped inside the vehicle.
The rise in temperature usually occurs in the first 30 minutes. Parked cars are a deathtrap for pets. Dogs and cats, they can’t sweat as humans do. They cool themselves down by panting and sweating through their paw pads. Having the window cracked doesn’t really help them because you’re just recycling that hot air and not giving them any relief. Just a few degrees change in a normal dog’s body temperature can quickly result in a coma, organ dysfunction, permanent brain damage, or worse yet. Now I know this should go without saying, but I’m going to say it to you.
Never ever leave a child in an unattended parked vehicle. Think before you act.
