Watch your head! Has your lift support run out of energy or have you? Get your lift support checked or replaced to avoid any more headaches caused by your trunk.

How many times has your liftgate, trunk, or hood fallen on your head? When you go to open it, it drops. It happened to me. Has your lift support just run out of energy, or have you?
Hi. I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center. Those liftgates, hood, or trunks, they open with the help of these lift supports. Lift supports have compressed gears in the cylinder, so when you close them, the cylinder stores the energy. When you open them, the energy is released in the cylinder, and it raises that gate, hood, hatch, or trunk.
Typically, lift supports, they lose their energy over time and need to be replaced. Now, this can be from natural permeation, exposure to extreme temperatures, constant use of them, or the age of the vehicle. Your technician will thank you if you let them know ahead of time that your hood support is not functioning properly, so they don’t get clobbered in the head. Having your lift support replaced is a simple fix and doesn’t take much time.
