Transcript:
Have you ever opened the hood of your vehicle or the trunk only over to fall on your head?
Can already hear you writhing in pain and cursing. Probably, a little concussed.
Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center.
What a painful experience and one that you certainly do not want to repeat, especially when it’s avoidable.
Before I explain why, check us out on Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube to stay up-to-date with our videos and to watch other videos like our video on, what to do if you put the wrong oil in your vehicle?
Your trunk and hood are held up by lift supports. Over time, these supports start to fail due to wear and tear along with the elements causing them not to work as you so rudely found out.
Lift supports are energy-stored devices with compressed air inside the cylinders.
When you open the hood or trunk of your vehicle, the energy is released, thereby raising the hood and the trunk and keeping it in an open position.
And then, you may get no warning before it completely fails, only for it to fall on your head.
One reason for the lift support to fail is the gas. They eventually permeate from the extreme temperatures or frequent usage can be another factor.
Your auto technician can replace these lift supports with new ones.
Be aware, lift supports come in different sizes with different ends for connecting them to your vehicle. Also, your vehicle may have one or two supports.
So if you choose to replace them, make sure you purchase the right support for your vehicle.
