Land Rover is a British sport utility vehicle (SUV) that comes in a variety of models including Range Rover / Range Rover Sport, Evoque, Discovery / Discovery Sport, and Velar. The ASE Certified Technicians at Kneble’s Auto Service Center have the expertise to perform diagnostic services and repairs on your Land Rover.
Like most modern vehicles, your Land Rover is equipped with onboard computer systems that monitor and regulate your vehicle’s operation including fuel delivery, exhaust emissions, anti-lock brakes, airbag systems, navigation systems, transmission operation, park assist, vehicle cameras, entertainment systems, and much more.
Trouble Codes & Check Engine Lights
The onboard computers in your Land Rover utilize sensors to monitor the various systems in your vehicle. In the event of system failure, the electronic control module (ECM), also known as the car’s computer, will often illuminate a check engine light on the dashboard and store a diagnostic trouble code (DTC), based on the feedback from one of the sensors. Our technicians are able to use diagnostic equipment to read diagnostic trouble codes which can often help them troubleshoot the cause of the malfunction, allowing us to get your Land Rover back on track in the shortest time possible.
The check engine light is in place to let you know that you need to have your vehicle checked out and there are few different statuses of the check engine light used on your Land Rover which can help you gauge the severity of the problem.
Intermittent Check Engine Light – This could be an indication of an intermittent problem and one that is near failure. You want to limit the amount of driving until you have this checked out.
Check Engine Light On Constantly – There is a clear problem being detected, you should bring your car in for service as soon as possible to prevent further issues or a breakdown.
Check Engine Light On with a Decrease in Driveability – This may mean that your Land Rover is in “limp mode” which is designed to limit your ability to use your vehicle so you bring it in urgently.
Blinking Check Engine Light – This is a sign that there is a major problem and you should stop driving the vehicle as soon as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions About Land Rover Diagnostic Service
Yes, we will use genuine Land Rover parts where desired or required. When your service advisor provides you with an estimate, you can discuss this with him or her.
Chances are that your vehicle’s computer system detected something abnormal at one time and no longer detects that concern. A common cause is leaving your gas cap off or not tightening it all the way, as this can cause the check engine light to come on. In any case, the safe bet is bringing your Land Rover in to have us perform a diagnostic check to see if any trouble codes were set.
Ideally, a system malfunction would be detected by a faulty sensor reading, which would cause the check engine light to come on. In some cases, a system failure can occur without warning.
