Have you ever seen an ASE Certifications logo at your go-to auto repair shop? Nancy explains why it is important that your mechanic should have at least one certification!
Transcript:
Have you seen an ASE sign or a certification posted at the auto repair shop you use? Do you know what qualifications your technician holds? Like your physician, you want your audit technician to be educated on the latest technology as the auto industry is an ever-changing industry.
Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center. An independent nonprofit organization created in 1972 called ASE. It stands for the National Institute For Automotive Service Excellence. Its purpose is to protect consumers, technicians, and owners of auto repair centers, along with help improving the quality of repair to promote excellence.
Certifications are available to auto technicians, service writers, and parts managers. The ASE certification provides tangible proof to the consumer on their knowledge. For an auto technician to take an ASE test, he or she must provide two years of experience or a two-year degree in automotive repair with one year’s experience.
Once an ASE certification is acquired, retesting is required every five years. Do you know, on average one out of three test-takers pass an ASE test? ASE certification tests are written by a panel of experienced technicians, auto manufacturers, professionals, executives in the industry, and educators. There are over 40 exams in different areas, including medium to heavy-duty trucks, buses, and collision repair.
Now as of July 2020, there are currently hundreds of thousands of technicians who hold these certifications across the country. We here at Kneble’s Auto Service Center can proudly say our technicians are ASE certified and are continuously updating their knowledge as technology evolves.
