Transcript:
Check engine light is something everyone who drives may have at one point experienced.
All too often, customers ask, “How much would it cost to fix my check engine light?”
Undoubtedly, an understandable question. It’s important to realize that the check engine light comes on for many reasons.
Depending on the features, your vehicle may have up to a hundred different computers, which help operate the various systems.
Check engine light is designed to let you know when one or more of the systems are failing.
There are scan tools that can be plugged under the dash to determine a code. The critical component is that the code doesn’t tell you what needs to be done to fix it; it only gives you an area for that problem.
Your vehicle will have to be diagnosed to pinpoint the repair needed to fix the problem. This diagnostic procedure may take several hours depending on the complexity of the problem and how many systems are failing.
The next time your check engine light comes on, and your technician says, “We need to diagnose it.” You’re going to understanding what he is referring to.
