Do you have a Honda, a Nissan, Jeep, or a pickup truck? You probably don’t have that now, because according to the National Crime Insurance Bureau, you’re on the FBI’s 2018 list for the most stolen vehicle, depending of course on the year, make, and model, and that can be found on the National Crime Insurance Bureau website. Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service, and no my vehicle’s not on that list because I drive a minivan. Hey, wait a minute, I don’t need that anymore. My kids are all grown. Well, in 2018 there had been reports of almost 750,000 vehicles stolen in the United States, but that number actually represents a decline.
Now, short of hiding your vehicle, there are some simple measures to take to prevent your vehicle from becoming a statistic and having to deal with the hassles of a stolen vehicle. Always lock your vehicle even if parked in front of your home, and never leave the keys in the ignition, let alone with the motor running. Park in a well-lit area. Some devices that can be installed in your vehicle are audible alarms, wheel locks, steering wheel locks, brake locks, a theft-deterrent decal can be used, kill switches, or even tracking devices. So be proactive, because the next time you head out to your vehicle, you still want it where it was parked.
