Are you struggling to make turns in your vehicle? Nancy breaks down 6 symptoms your vehicle is showing, which signals your axle is going bad.
Transcript:
Just imagine you’re driving down the road, and suddenly your vehicle won’t move or possibly not steer.
That can become quickly terrifying depending on the speed you are going.
Every thought is running through your mind.
But from a repair standpoint, the first thought should be what’s causing this problem.
Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center.
Well, this can be from a failing axle.
There are symptoms to look for before your axle fails. But before I provide you with six warning signs about the axle starting to fail, like us on Facebook, follow us on Instagram, and check out our YouTube channel.
- Difficulty braking. As the axle starts to fail, your brake pads can become misaligned and begin to drag.
- You can get a wobbling or vibrating noise. When driving at lower speeds, your vehicle can start vibrating. And as it gets worse, a wobble can develop. Also, at high speeds, the whole car can wobble.
- Misalignment. Check the position of your tires for misalignment, as a bent axle can contribute to this problem.
- A leak. Check for leaking oil, which can be from the outer brake seal leaking caused by a faulty axle. With four-wheel-drive vehicles, your drive shaft may cause leaks from the brake seals. This may be detected when assessing your brakes because you’re going to see oil on the brake drums.
- A strain. The vehicle may feel like it’s straining. This is from a faulty axle not getting power to your wheels. So when shifting into gear, it takes time to move.
- Noise, such as sputtering, bumping, or clunking noise. This could also occur when power is not getting to the wheels from the faulty axles. Nothing is more terrible than not having control of your vehicle. And all of this could have been avoided if you listened to your vehicle.
