Nancy explains what happens when your vehicle’s airbag goes off and what to do afterward.
Transcript:
Do you feel safe when driving in your vehicle? Something you probably have never given much thought to are the safety features in your vehicle, such as the airbags and seatbelts. Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center. When you think about it, do you think that the airbags are really filled with air and feel nice and fluffy like a soft pillow when they deploy? Absolutely not. Airbags are vented, nylon, fabric shaped pillows fill with chemicals such as nitrogen gas and they deploy on moderate to severe crashes.
Your vehicle is equipped with a multitude of sensors positioned in different areas of the vehicle. So once you have an accident, these sensors notify the computer and the airbag control unit is informed whereby sending in a signal. The airbag or bags deplore within 25 to about 50 milliseconds, which is about the time it takes to blink.
Once the airbags deploy, they will deflate themselves quickly, but be aware, you can be injured from those airbags if you are not properly positioned in your seat. You can possibly slide under the airbag just enough to feel a blow to your face. As you always should wear a seatbelt to ensure that you’re properly positioned in your seat and never put a rear-facing car seat on the front seat.
Once deployed airbags, they should be replaced professionally. So stay safe. Always. Don’t forget to buckle up. Keep your eyes on the road and happy motoring. Now, remember, share the video, share it because everybody needs to be safe on the road and like it. Thumbs up, because we like to know all the facts about feeling safe when driving.
