Nancy explains the importance of a proper working check engine light on the used car you intend to purchase!

Are you in the market for a used vehicle? Well come closer, I have a very good tip for you. Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center. Check engine light. That is the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic system. That monitors the ignition timing or misfiring. The shifting of your transmission and the fuel mixture gives you a multitude of codes. My tip is when you go to test drive the used vehicle you’re looking at, and you don’t see the check engine light, be aware that there is a possibility that that check engine light was turned off, and the codes were cleared, or in fact, the check engine light was on so long that the bulb just happened to burnout. So what I suggest you do is call your car care specialists and schedule them to look at the used vehicle before you purchase it. Have them scan the monitor and see if in fact that the codes are possibly pending, and that the check engine light may go back on, or also that the bulb is burned out.
You want to make sure that there are no codes pending because a check engine light will make you fail the New Jersey state inspection if you need the vehicle inspected. So you don’t want any surprises when you test drive, or when you actually buy the used vehicle. So call your local car care specialist, have them look over the car.
