Many times, customers ask how can they make their car last longer and how to avoid some major expenses. The reality is, if they make scheduled maintenances, their car will last much longer!

Hi, I’m Nancy at Kneble’s Auto Service Center. The most important thing you can do for your car is service maintenance. It will keep the car reliable and prevent future costs of repairs. Service maintenance, are recommendations by your vehicle’s manufacturer. They are determined by the miles on your car. This service maintenance schedule can be found in your owner’s manual like this, and if you can’t find the owner’s manual, consult me your service advisor.
Now here is a list of some of the services on the schedule. Number one and to me, the most important one you are going to be doing is an oil and filter change. This is going to extend the life of your engine. It lubricates the moving parts to prevent less friction on them.
Number two, air filter. Changing the air filter. The reason for this is you are going to prevent dirt and debris from getting in your fuel system and the engine. Let me show you what a dirty air filter looks like. Now let me show you what a clean air filter looks like. You can clearly see the difference between the two.
Number three, cabin air filter. The air that comes from the outside through your HVAC system is filtered by the cabin air filter. It filters out smog, pollution, mold spores. Let me show you what a dirty cabin air filter can look like. Now, remember, this is filtering the air that’s coming into your car that you’re breathing. This is a dirty cabin air filter. And here is a clean cabin air filter. Truly you can imagine that at some point the air on the outside of your car could be cleaner than the air inside your car. Another fact that you should understand, is that the ability of cabin air filters to filter out debris that measures three microns. Well you say, “Well what does that mean?” Understanding that a grain of sand measures across 200 microns. So a cabin air filter can filter something coming through that measures three microns.
Number four, coolant flush. Over time, coolant can develop rust and corrosion, so it’s important to have a coolant flush.
Number five, checking your brakes. You want to make sure your brakes are operating properly so you have a good stopping distance.
Number six, tire rotation. Tire rotation helps the tires wear evenly. For more detail, you can refer back to my video.
Number seven, checking the tire pressure. A decreased tire pressure can give you decreased stopping distance. For further information about that, please check out our previous video.
Number eight, transmission flush. Flushing the fluid will make sure that the gears shift properly. Number nine, check your wiper blades, wiper blades being made of rubber they can dry out, and when it’s raining you want to be able to see through the windshield.
Number 10, your ignition system maintenance. These are your spark plugs. So a bad spark plug, you will not be able to sustain the power from the engine and also could decrease your fuel economy. These were listed as some of the maintenance required. Remember, follow your maintenance schedule. It’s important to extend the life of your car, prevent those costly repairs.
